Being NOT at all mechanically inclined I can`t speak to doing it.I can say I watched it done on my SS with the several motors I have had in the car and also watched it done on the SRT-10 job.

I would heed the advice of Fast to be organized AND have someone there that has done it before.

Of course you could pay a shop to do it but I am guessing you are trying to save the labor $$.

Good luck with it.

I just did a cam swap on my car, do a search for a thread called "pulling motor." I took it down to a bare block and mind you that I've never attempted anything like this before. Since you've done motors before you know the emphasis placed on the word ORGANIZATION. Get yourself some tape and go through the engine bay tagging all connections.

Stock bottom can totaly handle it, they run cars at nationals that do 12's and faster with stock bottom end, but buy about 60 zipblock bags to put all the nuts and bolts in else you will loose them, and label the bags!

There are a few things you'll want to do with heads/cam on a stock bottom end. First, use the GM 'white' oil pump pressure spring.

Second, and if you have done motors before you'll know all about this, don't skimp on anything to do with cylinder head fastening/sealing to the block. Torque, let it sit then torque again ect... however you want to do it, just do it in a way that wont cause any cyl head sealing issues.

Second, be sure to take AI's advice on checking/adjusting the rocker arms and measuring for pushrods.

Other than that, if you have done a cam/head swap before it wont be all much different. Just take your time and take pics of all the electrical hookups/vacuum fittings on the intake manifold. Once you get past all of that crap, it's not much different from any other motor aside from the intake manifold being dry

And be sure you have a well built tranny!!
